Q. What's up everybody this is Southern Plug. we are here with Ms. Trill. Ms Trill tell everyone about you, what you got going on and basically who you are?

A. I'm Ms. Trill from the 803 born & raised. I have a couple things going on. Acting, singing, performances, album dropping this summer. So, stay tuned

Q. So I knew you was a singer right, but I didn't know about the act. So tell me a little bit more about the acting?

A.Plugged in with Geechee One Films in Charleston. Shouout to Felicia Rivers. She's doing big things, movie on Tubi. "Trap Flix Party" on Tubi. We just shot another one, "Dream Girl" with Nikki Natural. So stay tuned and shout out to Felicia, Felicia doing big things. Putting everybody on the map.

Q. So tell my readers, "Who is Ms. Trill" in just a few words?

A. A chick thats genuine and real. I didn't name me my students named me. They gave me the name about 16 years ago and it just kind of stuck.

Q. Your students? Explain.

A.I was an educator prior to all of this. I just retired after 16 years.

Q. That's wassup so I heard you say that your album was coming out this summer? So tell me more about the album.

A. Album drops "Acts 127". So I named it after a bible verse. My name is Candice so going to the roots with the album. "Acts 127" is going to tell you who Trill is. It's just going to break down different things and different scenarios. You know, putting my pain in my music.

Q. Yeah I definitely understand because the "Sip" record, that joint is tough. So how did you actually end up coming up with or what was your inspiration behind the "Sip" record?

A. I mean i just took liquor puns and just combined it with how I was felling and just came up with the song. It was like I felt the music, the music was so soulful already. You know if I can't feel the music, the word not going to even come out my mouth.

Q. Yeah I feel you. So was that like based on a true story? A. Yeah it was based on a true story Q. We're going to keep that confidental right?

 A. It is what it is. I mean who don't want a sip of what they're sipping on currently? If you don't then pour it out. I mean you're always welcome to switch up drinks if you need to.

Q.Anything else you got coming up besides the album and the movies with Geechee One.

A. You know, shoutsout to DrumLordsz media. You know thats my family. So we're getting ready to put some people on the map.Drumlord Shawt, Drumlord Haze, DrumLord Rocky. Those are my brothers from another mother.Just working collectively with everybody. I'm sorry,Cool Dude with The R Report, Patrick with R Report Magazine. I can't forget them plus all of those are my root people. Those people was like TRill you got it, go out here and go do it. Shouts out to Ms. Tip. Ms Tip, branding. She made sure that paperwork was right. If ya''ll don't have your papwrwork right? Gotta get it right ya BMI, ASCAP, all that.Holler at Tip she''l get you right. But shouts out to the whole dream team man. Without them I wouldn't be here. A Lot has taken place in say the last 10 months. It was all favors all Goq. I can't really take no credit, I'm just the vessel. So whoever I can help through whatever I got going on. So be it, that's why I'm here. I'm going to try to be like Lauren Hill, drop this "Ms. Education".

Q.What inspired you to want to do music. Or when did you know that you were good at music?

A. I like music. I recently got a divorce last year, so I was able to move a little different. I ain't had no wife responsibilities. So I got to stay in the studio all night long and do what I need to do and sing how I need to sing. you know, detaching from education I wax able to be more free with my vocals or whatever I want to say, I don't have to be so PG. I can actually let loose, be me. So I've always been like an artist behind the scenes, helping my students out and that's why it is so easy now. That's why I know everybody at this point because I've always been behind the scene in some kind of way.

Q. If there were to be any comparisons to you and like any other already established artist, or you can say these people are the people you look up to in the music industry. Give me about 3?

A. Easy, Mary (Mary J Blidge) off top, Anita Baker,Missy (Missy Elliot), Mariah (Mariah Carey). I'm old school periodt. You know what I'm saying, my soulful folk. That's who I rock with.

Q.Tell my readers how they can find you on all social media and how they can book you and things of that nature?

A.I'm on all platforms. You can find me at @Trillville84 on ig. Knicole Jacobs, Trill Life (fan page) on Facebook. So get at me. I don't do twitter. I'm a little old school but you can holler at me on Instagram, .

Get To Know Columbia, SC Most Decorated Young Artist Ija Charles

https://www.wltx.com/

On the side of a building on State Street in Cayce is a mural depicting a young girl, full round cheeks, big brown eyes and a curly afro surrounding scenes of “The Wonders of Cayce.” Inside one of the rooms at Immersion – an interactive art gallery on Main Street – is a diva bathed in colors with braided hair and full lips, wearing glasses on the tip of her nose with the words “Where Will You Go?” etched on the lenses. Head down the 1400 block of Main Street and a new mural depicting the once vibrant and bustling community of black owned businesses, restaurants and shops, titled Black Wall Street, is coming alive. Credit Columbia artist Ija Charles for these art scenes and many others that have been popping up across the Columbia region – and made an appearance at the Super Bowl this year. Charles adequately describes her art pieces as a renaissance of Black joy. “What drives me is just evoking inspirational positivity in the biggest way possible,” Charles said. “I just love how it touches everyone. That’s just the whole point, and the fact that I’m able to do it on large scale murals means everyone has access. You don’t have to go to a museum. You can just see it. And that’s what I want to do, especially for South Carolina – Columbia, South Carolina – to paint the town in some diĆ€erent colors of positive inspiration.” Her love for her craft is infectious. The 24-year-old artist says art has always been a part of her life. She remembers drawing on her middle school tests prompting teachers to feed her interest with trips to museums and purchasing her art. She has used art as a form of self-therapy and expression, and a way to bring a ray of positivity to those who need it. “I just knew that this was my career path,” she said. “And that was when I was first introduced to paint so I fell in love with color as you see with all my work now. My mission is to just paint positive vibes on our canvas of life because I know what it’s done for me, so if I can put that same light in a dark room, I’ve done my job.” Charles said the art scene in Columbia is ever-growing and is starting to define itself. From new art experiences like Immersion on Main Street to festivals with pop-up art shops and West Columbia’s art district, a lot of places are trying their best to create. “A lot of people say you can’t make it here. I feel like it’s very important for me to do something like this and stay in Columbia so people realize you can make it anywhere. People literally told me you have got to leave. But you really don’t have to! It’s up to you to make it wherever you are. “I feel like the longer you’re here the more art you’ll see, and every day there is going to be something new.” Charles is completing Black Wall Street in four week by herself, and will next pay homage to the first Black female entrepreneur in Columbia in the Five Points area. “It’s going to be pretty huge,” she said. “It’s actually a re-representation of Black Wall Street that actually existed in Columbia, S.C. A lot of people don’t even know that we had one because when they took it down they kind of just buried it in history, so I’m going to be recreating that and just showcasing how vibrant and lively that area was during that time.” Follow her art journey on Instagram @ija_monet.
