JuJuFrmDaBando: Southern Plug Music Awards 2023 Belle of the Ball

Jujufrmdabando is the brainchild of real name Binta Jeng, and she’s here to prove her talents in the music industry. Born and raised in The Gambia, raised in New York, and currently living in Charlotte, the rising star has been doing music for two years now — but she’s always been a part of the choirs or drama club. However, everything shifted when the pandemic hit when she was able to find her voice. During a time when she felt overwhelmed, she had to voice out some of her opinions and music was her escape route. Fast forward to today, she aims to share her passion with the world and hopes it’s received with much love and support.
Now, Jujufrmdabando unveils her newest single titled “Dummy.”

From the moment she stepped on the red carpet it was clear that Juju was to be the Belle of the Ball at this year's Southern Plug Music Awards. Later in the evening she went on to be crowned “Female Hip Hop Artist of Year” and
even hit the stage and wowed the audience with her “Bubble Butt”.

Exclusive Interview: Jujufrmdabando

July 23, 2022

How would you describe your sound?
I would describe my sound as crispy, poetic , catchy and very different/ I do not sound like anything or anyone that’s out right now.

Talk about where you’re from, how does that play into your life and career?

I was born in Gambia and raised in New York. Growing up around a lot of Afrobeats, reggae, dancehall and R&B music plays a huge role in my sound today. Due to these influences, I’m very versatile with my music style. I can make a rap song with melodic singing, or am Afrobeat/reggae vibe, or a twerk song really.

Biggest influences?

Nicki Minaj, Micheal Jackson, Wu-Tang and Vybz Kartel above all.

At what point did you realize this music thing was forreal?

I’ve always wanted to do music , but I fell off to go to school and pursue a higher education. But it didn’t work out, because I felt like I wasn’t doing what I loved. And once people started vibing to my music and reactions when I perform, it hits different.

What was the inspiration behind your name?

I came from the slums, the gutta. That’s my bando, my trap house. Creating a life for myself that I have now and the life I want for my future stands for from the bando. Bijou is my nickname my dad gave me since I was a baby, so I got the juju from that. And juju in African means a spell, so a spell from the gutters = jujufrmdabando.

You just released “Dummy,” who or what inspired this record?
This was such a spur of the moment song that ended up being fire. I was about to go to the club after my studio session. The “hey bitch wonder who I’m gon’ shit on today” came in my head and I just took it from there. I like flow in my songs, talk about how sexy I am. Money, sexy, success, etc.

What is it you want fans to get from your story?

I want them to know that I love them. This is for everyone that’s believed in me. I want them to follow their dreams and know that if you work hard enough for something, you can get it. Who thought I could be in America from a very small town? I just wanna encourage and motivate.

3 things you need in the studio?

A blunt, Casamigo, and good vibes.

Goals yourself as an artist at this point of your career?
I want to be the first female artist the top the entire Top 10 of the Billboard charts.
I want a Grammy.
I wanna go global.
I wanna be in a position to change the world.
I wanna give back.
I wanna be the best in my field and the greatest to ever do it.

B.Me: South Carolina’s Voice Built From the Soil

South Carolina has always had its own rhythm. It’s slower, heavier, and soaked in truth. That’s the lane B.Me runs in—no shortcuts, no borrowed accents, just real life poured into verses.

Coming out of South Carolina, B.Me doesn’t chase trends as much as he documents moments. His music feels lived-in, like it was written after long nights and longer thoughts. There’s a sense that every bar comes from experience, not imagination. When he raps, you hear the weight of where he’s from—the pressure, the pride, the hunger to be more without forgetting the past.

What separates B.Me from a lot of up-and-coming rappers is his restraint. He doesn’t rush the message. He lets beats breathe. His delivery sits somewhere between reflective and relentless, like he’s talking to himself but letting the world listen in. It’s Southern rap without the gimmicks—raw, intentional, and grounded.

Lyrically, B.Me leans into themes that hit close to home: survival, ambition, loyalty, and the quiet battles people don’t post online. There’s a maturity in how he approaches his craft, as if he knows the music isn’t just about going viral—it’s about leaving something that lasts.

South Carolina isn’t always the first place people look when searching for the next voice in hip-hop, but artists like B.Me are changing that narrative. He represents a new wave of SC rappers who are carving their own identity instead of chasing validation from bigger markets.

B.Me’s story is still being written. And that’s part of what makes it compelling. He’s not presenting himself as a finished product—he’s showing the process. The growth. The grind. The becoming.

In a genre crowded with noise, B.Me stands out by staying honest. And sometimes, that’s the loudest statement you can make.
