Ledfiddle: An All American Rock Star

Question: Hey everyone it’s ya boy Darren Southern Plug Brown, here with a mega Southern Plug Exclusive. Introducing to some,(artist's name). So, tell our readers that may not be familiar with you or your work just who you are and what it is that you do exactly.

Answer: Hey Darren, I’m DJ Cooke or LedFiddle. I play the national anthem for events to celibate our country, those that have fought and fallen for our freedom! I’m an Army combat veteran myself and feel it’s my mission! I also build guitars!

Question: So, what inspired you to start your journey as an guitarist?

Answer: Early on I wanted to be a guitarist! But life took me other directions. During that time I served with some magnificent people in some tough places! I wanted to combine my skill as a guitarist and my mission to empower veterans into one thing. So playing the National Anthem n guitar just fit!

Question: How and when did you coin the stage name Ledfiddle? And how do you feel that title fits you?

Answer: Well… it just kinda happen! A buddy of mine and I would call guitars “getfiddles”. I started building guitars and having the idea of performing the National Anthem when I was still on active duty. I felt like “getfidddle” was too country for other musicians. So I changed “get” to “lead” then everyone pronounced it as in first place “lead” so I changed the spelling to “Led”

Question: Do you have any upcoming projects or announcements to make?

Answer: I am constantly networking to play the National Anthem as well as other projects! I love music in general! I am involved with several artist with studio work and always looking for opportunities to play the National Anthem live! My next live goal.

Question: What would you say is the quote on quote secret recipe for your success?

Answer: Never stop pushing your boundaries!!!! The day you stop trying to better yourself is the day the person that wants what you have, wins!

Question: What was your favorite part about what you do?

Answer: There is a power in music that does not exist in any other art form! I can use my guitar to make you smile or cry. But no matter which I have you feel, you are in my realm so you can let go of yours and relax!

Question: Name a time where you've faced adversity in your career? And, what impact did it have on you or your career?

Answer: I cater to veterans. I do this because I feel there is a sacrifice made by veterans that most will never understand. I have had several veterans try to take advantage of me and my business and that’s just so disheartening! That has been difficult because in the military we are taught to treat each other as brothers and sisters. It has made me more guarded but more appreciative of the brothers and sisters I learn I can trust!

Question: Is there something in specific that you want people to know about you or your art?

Answer: I want people to remember America! “We the people” means something to me! Patriotism is not about apolitical party or a branch of service, it’s about love and mutual respect! When I play the National Anthem my goal is to give everyone in the audience goosebumps thinking of those that have sacrificed for our freedoms!

Question: How do you juggle your personal life and professional life?

Answer: A huge part of all this for me is showing my son that you can do anything you set your mind to. One of my sons biggest heros is Ty from Dude Perfect! When we got tickets to see him live my son came running into my room and said “dad ty plays guitar! Build him one please!!!!” So… I did. And my son , wife and, I gave it to Ty at the Dude Perfect show in Charlotte! I include my family in all aspects of what I do! Without them…. I would not be who I am!

Question: What advice would you give those wanting to start their journey in your field?

Answer: Don’t be inside the box! Learn your instrument but then bent the instrument to show the world you! Do something new! Because you can play like your favorite player does not make you as good as them. Always remember the best of the best played like no one else at the time they became famous!

Question: Who would you say is your biggest inspiration and why?

Answer: That’s tough!!!! But the one band that made me obsessed with music is Nirvana! Following Kurt Cobain's influencers brought me to blues! All music is connected!

Question: Ok we do this every interview! What creatives would you absolutely die to work with? Answer: Dave Grohl, Ken Mo’, Buddy Guy, Tom Morello, J Massis, snoop…. I mean so many!!!!

Question: Tell our readers how they can book you and connect with you on the world wide web and on the socials.

Answer: Email: ledfiddleguitars@gmail.com on Instagram @ledfiddle

Her music is a powerful blend of hard-hitting beats, catchy hooks, and unapologetic lyrics, capturing the essence of New Orleans' rich musical heritage while pushing the boundaries of modern hip hop. Heaven’s rise has been nothing short of meteoric, as her electrifying performances and charismatic presence continue to captivate audiences both locally and beyond. Her authenticity and fearless approach to music have resonated with a growing fanbase, earning her recognition as a true innovator in the genre. As she continues to gain momentum, Heaven is poised to become a leading figure in the world of bounce music, bringing the sound of New Orleans to the forefront of the global hip hop scene.

Q: Where do the relationship stories on KISS come from?

A: OnlyHeaven: I just like to talk about real-life situations, things people can relate to. That could be love or just something about myself.

What’s a lyric on the tape that came from a real-life situation?

On “Never Hard,” I go, “She said, I got a little stomach, that’s from eating niggas bread.” Like, I’m a big girl, so sometimes people try to come for me, though they know not to come for me for real. They’ll be like, “Oh, she got a stomach, dadada.” So I turned it into that’s from eating all the nigga’s bread, that’s like taking his money.

You’re always stunting on people when you write about them.

[Laughs.] Yeah, like when I went, “I got your text nigga/Say where I’m at nigga/Really been on your mind,” I had really got a text from someone who had tried to be weird with me, and I kind of just brushed them off. I remember they hit me up late at night and then hit me up again talking about “good morning.” So I was like, “Nigga, I really been on your mind, huh?” and was saying it all day to myself until I went to the studio.

Has someone ever been offended by you rapping about them?

If I rapped about you, I told you about it. I’m gonna send you the song and say, “This is about you.” But one time someone reached out to me, you know what… let me not be too messy with you.

Go ahead.

OK. Somebody reached out and thought my song “No Friends” was about them. And I had to be like, “Sir, you’re not even relevant.” People be thinkin’ songs about them because they feel guilty, but a lot of my music is about recent exes or things my friends told me.

Are you a romantic?

I’m so sweet. I think I’m a hopeless romantic because I don’t give nobody a chance. But, once I’m on you, I’m on you. But, also, once I’m off you, I’m off you.

What’s bounce culture to you?

Ass shaking. Booty poppin’. Everybody cute. Everybody fly. It could be different. It could be dangerous. You never know. But it stay fun.

Is there something unique about New Orleans that allows bounce culture to thrive?

It’s just the environment. I grew up all over New Orleans, Uptown, Seventh Ward, wherever. I went back to New Orleans last week and just being away let me look around and be like, “We are really our own goddamn everything.” Everything about New Orleans is its own world.

What’s one thing New Orleans does better than any other city?

Drink all day, everyday. Anywhere, anytime, anyplace. We could buy a bottle at three o’clock in the morning. We do whatever we want. We don’t have no rules. When we go out of town, it’s funny, like “What you mean I can’t bring my drink outside of the club?” I went somewhere, I forgot where I was, and I had got a drink and was just walking away from the bar with the drink. The doorman was like, “You can’t do that,” and I just looked at him. In New Orleans, I would have taken that drink and walked right by the police with it.

Is there a difference between the bounce music you grew up on and the bounce music of today?

I believe so. The music back then was a lot more raw. It’s still explicit now, but it used to be even more explicit. They got straight to the point. Things are more commercial now.

What was some of the music back then that had the rawness you miss?

Definitely Sissy Nobby; he don’t care what you see. And Kelly Pounchin. Kelly not really spoke on, but they was so raw; rest in peace.

Are those your favorite bounce MCs?

I love Calliope Ceedy. I always knew I wanted to be a bounce artist, but her music was always it to me. She had the energy, always sounded like she was having fun. It sounded like 100% her. I actually ran into her a couple of months ago.

Do you remember a specific turning point in the commercialization of bounce?

Big Freedia doing work with Beyoncé. VickeeLo collabing with Meg Thee Stallion. That SupahBadd song, the one where it goes, “There’s a meeting in my bedroom.” All of that showed me that bounce was bubbling outside of the city. Of course, Magnolia Shorty had been doing that, but back then, it was just her.

How do you feel about it?

I feel it’s all positive because I don’t want bounce to just be a New Orleans thing. I want to take it worldwide. Some people in New Orleans don’t like when people take it outta town, but I feel without that we’ll all be stuck in one place.

Have you ever been somewhere outside of New Orleans where someone has asked you to tone down your music?

No, every artist that has come up to me wants me to do me, like Drake and artists of that caliber.

Drake? How did that come about?

He reached out. I can’t talk too much about it, but he saw my video for “In Here” on WorldStar. He wanted me to do something for his project with PartyNextDoor. We did something and he really wanted it to be on his album, but things happen.

Hi Elliot, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in a small town in South Carolina and started singing in church at the age of fifteen. At the age of eighteen I started learning to play guitar as a Freshman in college. During this time I led worship for various youth groups and was the worship leader for Baptist Collegiate Ministry at Francis Marion University my last year of college.

After graduating college in 2009, I moved to the Midlands of SC, where I would meet my wife. Before we got married, I tried out for several talent shows, but never made the cut. I took that as a sign that maybe I should only focus on my faith and family and chose to only sing and play in church, and ended up getting a position at my local church where I was on staff for eight years. After my time there, my family and I transitioned to another church that I’ve been able to grow, not only in my faith, but musically as well, under some great leadership.

Leading and singing in church actually prepared me (unknowingly) for my current platform. It really helped me learn balance, especially with my family. My wife and I have now been married for over 12 years and have two amazing children. Just last year, I chose to start pursuing Country Music. I released my first single, “The Country Way,” in February of this year, and it got me nominated for Artist of the Month for Carolina Country Music.

I have been featured on Soda City Live on WIS Channel 10 for my new single and my current journey. I also was nominated as Columbia’s Best Local Solo Artist and received runner-up accolades.

My second single, “You Can’t Spell BUSCH Without USC,” has garnered radio play on 94.3 The Dude in Columbia, SC, as part of their College GameDay Pre-Game Show every Saturday.

I released my third single, “Better Than I Deserve,” on September 27th and I have a fourth single called “If Only” set to release mid to late November. This most recent song is inspired by two close friends I lost unexpectedly last year, one to suicide and one who got sick and unfortunately never made it out of the hospital.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been too bad. I’m blessed and so grateful. With the current laws in place, it makes it difficult for many small businesses to have live music due to how expensive insurance rates are, so that’s probably been the “most difficult” side of things, but still not too bad. The journey can be tough, but through “a little southern charm and a lot of hard work,” I’ve learned it’s not as difficult as it may seem. I have a vision for my brand. I love playing breweries and hotels. I’m a family man and most breweries are family friendly. I also love private events. Helping someone’s event be extra special, extra fun, etc. is so rewarding.

Give grace, show mercy, and have faith: this goes a long way in building a relationship with business owners and fans. My goal isn’t to necessarily be on the HUGE stage, touring every night, although it would be pretty cool. I just want to support my family.

Understanding I’m “better than I deserve” and displaying gratitude, helps me to stay focused. It’s easy to compare and get distracted, but luckily I’m blessed with an amazing wife and family.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Country Music Artist who started chasing the Country Music dream last July at the age of 36. I’m most proud of being able to show my kids they can chase their dreams. I’ve been doing this now for a year and a half and have released 3 songs and have had two songs featured on different radio programs here in South Carolina. I believe what sets me apart from most people is my authenticity and realness. I’m the same person on and off stage. I love being a family man. I’m beyond blessed.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Yeah. Feel free to book me for your next event and check out my music. I can be heard on all listening apps and hope to have music be my full time career one day. You can find all of my information at:
